A Stem Cell therapy update from Preston Walker

From: Preston Walker [mailto:pwalker2644@sbcglobal.net]
Sent: Sunday, December 07, 2008 3:28 PM
Subject: Interview before/after treatment in Costa Rica

As most of you know, I have had Multiple Sclerosis since December of 2001. I pursued stem cell treatment in Costa Rica in May 2008. I can absolutely say that pursuing the treatment was the best decision I have made. For now, I am MS symptom free. I can't/won't say I have been cured for quite some time now but the treatment was worth every moment working extra to pay for the treatment and praying the funds would come in through the fund raisers.

The company offering the treatment there is the Institute for Cellular Medicine. The long and short of it is that my entry and exit interview has been posted on YouTube. Through these sort of videos and exposure, I know the company is going to make a lot of money but I also know spreading the word of the treatment is providing a lot of hope through the MS Community.

If you want to watch the video, go to YouTube and search the site for me. There I am!!

I hope this finds everyone doing well,
Preston Walker

In Response to The Headache Posting, found just below

Guillermo, from the Dominican Republic has offered the following information with regards to headaches and MS:

Hi Stuart:
I've read on your blog that you want more investigations about headaches and MS.
I think this will help you.

I suffered from an everyday terrible migraine-like headache . Everyday I took 6 or 8 tylenols for about 6 months, with success only until the effects of the tylenols.
I didn't tolerate noise, odors or anything.

One day I was reading on the internet about calcium, and between one page and another I read that calcium orotate helps people with lupus and MS. And when I was reading the article, it said that people with MS should follow the same protocol of people with lupus, but those who suffer from a migraine like headache should take a higher dose.

I immediately order this calcium to see if it can help me, and with the 1st tablet, the headache disappeared.
That was 6 years ago, and that headache hasn't appeared again.
I take 1-745mg in the morning with an empty stomach, and 1-745mg with dinner.
I have made some tests to see if it's real, quitting the calcium for a couple of days, and the headache came back.

I recommended this calcium to 3 friendS with MS and the headache, and all of them are headache free.

Here's the part of the article where talks about it:

Around 1975 Dr. Nieper began treating lupus erythematosus patients with calcium orotate. 35 He found that a dose of 1 to 2.5 grams was surprisingly effective when administered over a period of at least one year, even in advanced cases with pulmonary constriction, pleural effusions, or cardiomyopathy. 35, 50 Therapy also involved low-dose prednisone and a variety of nutrients to promote adrenal steroid synthesis, such as selenium and vitamins C and D2, as well as other calcium and magnesium salts. An account of one patient’s successful response to therapy with calcium orotate and other Nieper compounds can be found in an article available from the Brewer Science Library. 51 In addition Nieper found that multiple sclerosis sometimes accompanies lupus, so it’s not surprising that his protocol for treating MS is strikingly similar to that for treating lupus. 52, 53 He recommended a dose of 1 gram calcium orotate per day for MS patients, with a higher dose given to those patients with a tendency toward migraine-like headaches.

Multiple sclerosis seen associated with headache

Yahoo News
Reuters - Wed Dec 3, 3:31 pm ET

(Stuart will insist that more needs to be known of Headaches and MS, as he has battled almost daily headaches for more than 10 years)

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Patients with multiple sclerosis are more apt to suffer from headaches than the general population, results of a study hint.

Multiple sclerosis, or MS, is a disease in which the immune system mistakenly attacks and damages the myelin sheath that protects nerve cells. It can cause symptoms ranging from vague tingling to blindness and paralysis.

"Headache is not generally considered a symptom of MS, and studies investigating the relationship between the two conditions have produced conflicting results," Dr. Mario Zappia, of the University of Catania, and colleagues note in a report published this month.

Beware of Bogus Clinics Offering Stem Cell Cures

Discover Magazine

Clinics around the world are offering unproven stem cell treatments to desperate patients with diseases like Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis, a new report says, and consumers should be on the lookout for snake oil salesmen. A new set of guidelines issued by the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) gives consumers some hints on how to identify the scammers: Beware, it warns, of clinics claiming to treat multiple diseases with the same cells, boasting that there is no risk, and offering patient testimonials - rather than results from clinical research - as evidence that their treatment works. “Patients want to believe so much that a treatment is helping them that they can convince themselves that is has” [New Scientist], the guidelines caution.

Gender-related differences in MS

source: Mult Scler. 2008 Nov 21. [Epub ahead of print]

Gender-related differences in MS: a study of conventional and nonconventional MRI measures

summary: This study showed differences between men and women in brain MRI measures in people with MS, suggesting that sex hormones may be related to mechanisms of brain lesions and their repair.

authors: Antulov R, Weinstock-Guttman B, Cox J, Hussein S, Durfee J, Caiola C, Dwyer M, Bergsland N, Abdelrahman N, Stosic M, Hojnacki D, Munschauer F, Miletic D, Zivadinov R

Buffalo Neuroimaging Analysis Center, Department of Neurology, State University of New York at Buffalo, Buffalo, New York, USA; Department of Radiology, Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka, Rijeka, Croatia.

Background: Studies showed gender-associated differences in multiple sclerosis (MS) disease evolution and in the evolution of conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate gender differences according to a number of conventional and nonconventional MRI measures in patients with MS.

Decreased T-cell reactivity to Epstein-Barr virus-infected lymphoblastoid cell lines in multiple sclerosis

The cause of MS is not known but many factors are implicated including possibly viruses. The authors investigated immunity to Epstein-Barr virus in people with MS and found fewer immune cells, suggesting that it might somehow be involved.

authors: Pender MP, Csurhes PA, Lenarczyk A, Pfluger CM, Burrows SR

source: J Neurol Neurosurg Psychiatry. 2008 Nov 17. [Epub ahead of print]

The University of Queensland, Australia.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate T-cell and antibody immunity to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in multiple sclerosis (MS).

Switching first-line disease-modifying therapy after failure

Switching first-line disease-modifying therapy after failure: impact on the course of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.

Gajofatto A, Bacchetti P, Grimes B, High A, Waubant E.

Multiple Sclerosis Center, Department of Neurology, University of California, San Francisco, California, USA; Department of Neurological and Vision Sciences, University of Verona, Verona, Italy.

Background - Options for non-responders to relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) first-line disease-modifying therapies (DMT) are limited. We explored whether switching first-line DMT is effective.MethodsPatients with RRMS who first received interferon-beta (IFNB) or glatiramer acetate (GA) were classified in three categories: DMT change because of suboptimal response, DMT change because of other reasons, and no DMT change during follow-up.

Vaccination prevents multiple sclerosis in animal model;

Protection from the own immune system

Vaccination prevents multiple sclerosis in animal model; Heidelberg researchers publish in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

Some 80,000 people in Germany suffer from multiple sclerosis – their immune system attacks and destroys healthy nerve tissue. Researchers at the Heidelberg University Hospital and the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg have succeeded in vaccinating mice with specially treated, autologous immune cells and preventing them from developing encephalitis, which is similar to multiple sclerosis in humans. A protein of the nervous system, that is the target of the harmful immune reaction in multiple sclerosis, was placed on the surface of the cells; the cells were treated with an agent that suppresses immune defense.

The Heidelberg researchers have published their results – initially online – in the prestigious journal "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA".

The team around Professor Dr. Peter Terness is working in the Department of Transplantation Immunology (Director: Professor Dr. Gerhard Opelz) of the Institute of Immunology at the Heidelberg University Hospital. Professor Terness and his colleagues work primarily on developing methods to prevent rejection of donor organs without impairing the immune system.
