I don't know a thing about patents but a fifteen year patent sounds like a long, long time. Is the patent awarded to protect the patent owners exclusive rights and protect against other companies selling the same item?
I understand that the inventor deserves to make a fair profit long-term but will it take another 15 years with a lock on the market to do that?
Are these long patents part of the reason these drugs cost so much?
Someone please educate me!
