For anyone who has lost full use of their hands or feet because of an accident or a disease like multiple sclerosis, just getting up and down the stairs can be tough. Now there's a new medical device helping some getting around a little easier. Immanuel Rehab Center in North Omaha is using some new technology to help people living with stroke, multiple sclerosis or other nervous system injuries stay active.
Margaret Beckman has been living with multiple sclerosis for 32 years now, but this new device is making her life a lot easier. She said "Because I was experiencing foot drop and that's what this machine is for; it's for people with foot drop, because I was doing a lot of tripping and a lot falling, and now I've not had any tripping or falling whatsoever since I've had it."
The device has been on the market for two years now.
Jessica Wissink from Immanuel Rehab Center said "Basically it's a specific type of functional electrical stimulator, or FES for short, and this is basically just for foot drop."
