Daclizumab May Reduce MS Disease Activity More Than Interferon Beta Alone

DG NEWS

NEW YORK -- February 15, 2010 -- Add-on daclizumab treatment might reduce multiple sclerosis disease activity more than standard interferon beta treatment alone, according to a study published online first and appearing in the April edition of The Lancet Neurology.

Daclizumab has reduced multiple sclerosis disease activity in previous non-randomised studies. In the current study, John W. Rose, MD, Neurovirology Research Laboratory, VA Medical Center, Salt Lake City, Utah and colleagues aimed to assess whether daclizumab reduces disease activity in patients with active relapsing multiple sclerosis who are receiving standard interferon beta treatment.

I was in the study that Dr. Rose did. It helped me so much.
I just heard that Daclizamb is no longer going to be available at all.
There are some people on it that could not take Tysabri and they will not be able to get this drug.
It is a shame.

Hi I read your post and am looking for Daclizumab at a very low cost as my wife needs a 7 day treatment at 50 mg vial per day.

Do you have any idea how much the cost would be and where the best place is to purchase it ?

Thanks for your answer and any help you can provide

Nick

I forgot to mention that she does not have insurance so we would be paying cash

Thanks again !

NICHOLAS - this drug is still in research study.

Thank you Stuart, My wife's Dr. is prescribing either Simulect or AGT with his preference towards AGT so that's why I was asking as i noticed in searches that Daclizumab was one of two Trade names for AGT.

AGT is avaiable I assume, just not under the trade name mentioned above as it's in trials as you mentioned.

From the little in-vivo clinical trial information I have read it seems to work quite well in Organ rejection situations.

My wife is having a moderate case of Cyclosporine toxicity and is now off of it and in order to get her organ anti rejection system back in check they might need the simulect or AGT to accompany other medication (steroids)

Thanks for the info !

Why is your wife not using ne of the mainstream ms medications?

Hi Stuart

Actually my wife was recommended Daclimuzab for a moderate T cell type immune system attack on her transplanted kidney. The drug has been tested in renal transplant patients and although it's been 2 1/2 years from the transplant date, the body has the memory of an elephant and the search and destroy tactics of the Mosab.

The drug is available through Roche here in mexico as they have a facility here in Cuernavaca where I am.

Sorry for barging in to this Blog a little out of topic item, hope I am not causing any problems.

All the best to you all

Nick
