Getting rid of those pesky Needles

Often it's asked of me where people can dispense of their needles when their doctors no longer take them.

The only answer for you, is to call your local waste management representatives (those who pick up your trash). - I am sure they will have the answer for you, depending on where you live.

check with your local fire departments - they take my containers in Florida.

I had asked my pharmacy, and they actually told me to use an old Tide container (or Gain, or whatever you use). Once you fill it up, then tape the lid onto it, and then put it with your regular garbage. This way the needles won't sting the garbagemen.

Hi Stu,

here is the link for legal syringe disposal in NYC (see, "dot gov")-

http://www.nyc.gov/html/nycwasteless/html/at_home/medical.shtml#sharps

They should be labeled "used sharps," or "home sharps," taped, double-bagged, and labeled again on the outside.

The "clorox" bottles Of Yore were probably made from thicker plastic, so UNCAPPED NEEDLES will peek right OUT, maybe tell your super in advance?

Whoops, time for my Copax!

Sing along everybody -
so UNCAPPED NEEDLES will peek right OUT,

Rather than having a container of used syringes around, buy a BD Safe-Clip. It's a small device, about 3" long. It clips off the needle and stores it. Holds about 1000 needles. Mine cost $4 at the pharmacy. When full, just toss. Easier than having a container of syringes lying around.

Caremark sends me a Sharps Container whenever I ask for it with my copaxone for no additional cost. (like they need anything after the 3 grand...) Then I just close it up and toss it in the trash (per my local waste disposal regs). Guess I'm weird that I recap my needles. Can't stand a needle on the table with cats/kids around.
