Lena Horne - A Full Life with Multiple Sclerosis

By Jen's Solitude - posted May 12, 2010

As we contemplate the many achievements of the late Ms. Lena Horne and mourn her passing, those of us in the MS community want to pay special attention to the way she went about living her life.

She is not as well known for living successfully with Multiple Sclerosis, as she is for being a world class performer and lady of elegance and beauty, yet live with MS she did.

What a find example she is for us all, as she lived to the grand age of 92 with MS as her constant companion. In fact, she lived long past the projected life expectancy, as a person with MS.

Though it is well documented that Lena Horne was diagnosed with MS, it is nearly impossible to find quotes from her about her life with MS and her symptoms.

Perhaps she felt acknowledging the disease was revelation enough. That of course was certainly her right.

Hours have been spent trying to track down information about her MS, without success, so I will keep my eyes opened for any obscure reference made to her personal battle with MS and include it here when it becomes available.
